Things are Moving Along!

Proof read the press release for Calbert: The Second-Grade Cowboy. It makes me want to read the book to see what happens and I already know how it ends! LOL  Obviously, I didn't write the press release.  Everyday we get closer and closer to the publishing date.

My friends and family have been surprised to find out I have written this book.  Now that they know, I have even more friends and family to be excited with.

Arkansas Vacation Spot

More from Calbert the Cowboy - Facing the Bully

The room shook with the sound of an explosion. “Wow, did you feel that?”

“Yes, and I heard it too,” Ernie replied. He was speaking faster than before.

“What is happening?”

     “I don’t know!” I answered.

“We better forget the box of props and get out of here,” Ernie suggested. But

when Ernie grabs the doorknob, it came off in his hand.

“What are we going to do?” I shout. No answer came from Ernie.

“WHAT HAPPENED TO THE LIGHTS?” Ernie and I screamed at the same

time.

“I can’t see a thing. I think things are getting bad out there!”

     Ernie shouts back, “Me too!”

“The lights keep flickering off and on. We have to get out of here and fast.”

“My heart is beating so hard. I think my heart might pop out of my chest,” I add.

At that moment, a blasting, ear-piercing sound starts ringing through the air. It

feels that my ears are bleeding, and even covering them doesn’t seem to help. I look at

Ernie, and he is trying to plug his ears too. I yell, “What is that?” Ernie cannot hear me

over the loud ringing.

I look at Ernie again between flashes of lights, and I see that his face is red but

not the mad kind of red. He looks like he is going to cry. “Come on, we have to think

now,” I yell as I shake Ernie by the shoulders.

The "Real" Calbert unknowingly helps with idea for the second book.

"Mom, have you ever been on a double Decker bus?" "No, I haven't."  "What about a double Decker train?"  "Yes, I have.  My seat was on the bottom deck, but we were able to go up stairs and look out windows of the top deck." In response to that he responds, "Well, when I ride in a double Decker train, I'm going to sit on the top deck.  That way I can fight off any 'bad guys' that try to get on the train."

So, Calbert the Cowboy...here we go again! =)

Exciting Stuff

I have just finished writing a book, which will be on shelves in just a couple of months from now. It is very exciting. The inspiration for this particular book, is loosely based on one of my three boys. He is warm, light hearted and funny, but is also very sensitive and caring. The anticipation is incredible waiting to see Calbert the Cowboy in book form. Everyday is a new adventure. Stay tuned!

Calbert the Cowboy - Facing a Bully

“Bang bang bang!” I shout as I pull my six-shooters out of my holster. I dart around the corner to my older brother’s bedroom to shoot any marauders that might have come in while I was gone. Jason yells at me, “Get lost, kid!”

“Kid! Who are you calling a kid? I am Calbert, the toughest cowboy in the second grade,” I yell back at him. “Even my name means ‘cowboy,’ so there.”

Not to be slowed down by my big brother, I move into the kitchen. You never know what kind of outlaw may have stopped in for a bite. Especially if they had fresh baked chocolate chip cookies on their minds.

“Bang bang bang!” I shoot again, only to find my little brother staring back at me. Now he is the one that is the “kid” around here. Ethan is two years younger than I am and is very annoying.

Ethan just looks at me and starts saying, “Calbert, Calbert, Calbert, will you play with me?”

“If you will play cowboys,” I say,

“No way,” Ethan replies and then hops out of the kitchen.

I sure don’t know what my mom was thinking when she adopted Ethan along with Jason and me—wish we could give him back! Actually, I do kind of like him, but I’m not going tell him that!
